Structural Engineering

Our structural design projects vary in scale from simple, one-off Structural Building Regulations calculations for domestic clients, to multi-million pound developments. Design, analysis, calculation and specification can be carried out in a variety of materials to both British Standards and Eurocodes. Permanent and temporary work solutions can be developed to meet the needs of any job.
Surveys and Assessment
Visual inspections, invasive and analysis of existing structures.
Whether for the purchase of a property, to establish the extent of deterioration in a structure or any other reason, our office will provide thorough reviews of existing structures in part or in full. Invasive investigations can be instructed in conjunction with local contractors and survey companies that MLDE have built relationships with through countless projects.
Civil Engineering
Comprehensive packages for civil engineering installations/alterations.
MLDE are capable of providing a range of facilitating civil engineering packages, including drainage specification, retaining wall and foundation design, specification and method statements for underpinning works and working in water courses amongst others. Communication with governing bodies such as the Environment Agency form a huge part of this and are all dealt with in-house.
Project management
Dedicated management of works and supervision of project contracts.
The full life cycle of a project can be supervised to ensure consistency from the very beginning. Operating with the standardised forms of contract, provided by the Joint Contracts Tribunal, ensures fairness for both our clients and a chosen contractor.
Listed Building Consent and Planning Permission
Supporting clients through regulatory requirements in the built environment.
MLDE have a track record of developing relationships with various statutory authorities to guide projects through all stages from conception to completion. This allows us to help clients navigate the regulations and policies which directly affect their property and gain permission for sensitive projects with greater efficiency. Decades of experience combined with current knowledge of planning legislation and building regulations mean we are able to submit planning applications, listed building consent applications and building control applications on a client’s behalf.
Specialist material design
Engineering in non-standard materials for project-specific design.
Designing in non-standard materials such as glass, fabric and rammed earth requires first-principles engineering, an ability which is so commonly overlooked. Projects that may not be feasible in conventional materials can be realised using an adaptive approach without boundaries of conformity.
