Structural Inspections revealed that the highly corrosive swimming pool environment had caused significant corrosion to critical aspects of the steel portal frame structure of the leisure centre.
MLDE were commissioned to detail an extensive raft of repairs and the associated temporary works required in order to implement the repairs. This included the propping and tying of the primary portal frames, in order that heavily corroded steel stanchion sections could be carefully cut out and new sections welded in. The temporary works required the use of improvised ‘dampers’ to provide temporary mass to the lightweight roof structure in the event of wind uplift, whilst not applying kentledge dead weight to the propped structure.
