Working in conjunction with artist and sculptor Judy Boyt, the brief for this project was to design a series of way markers at certain points on the clients property in Jersey. Judy took elements of things or people around the area, including the design of the Old Railway station adjacent to the site and a simple coastal path scene of someone enjoying the view. The child standing on the fence is trying to catch the Jersey Butterfly whilst scaring off the seagulls, and yet the sign post serves as a functional marker, pointing the way toward the coast.
The path adjacent to the clients property formed part of the old railway track from St Helier to St Ouens which both walkers and cyclists use regularly, providing an audience for the simple but effective installations. All of this was realised in laser cut corten steel, a material which provided sufficient longevity in such a harsh coastal environment.
