The White House

The listed White House is believed to have originally been a pair of late seventeenth century simple timber framed farm-worker type houses that had undergone many phases of alteration and extension over the centuries.

The client fully renovated and sympathetically repaired the original historic structure, and added a complementary rear oak framed extension.

The client was environmentally conscientious, and part of the brief was to limit the use of modern materials, including cementitious binding agents. MLDE were able to specify a bonded aggregate foundation mix that utilised no cement at all, and achieved a compressive strength of approximately 30N/mm^2, relying only on waste materials.
